Like so many frontier towns, Bisbee burned several times. Because most of the conflagrations occurred during times of prosperity, it was rebuilt each time, bigger and better. But often there was resistance to creating a fire department equal to the task of protecting the great city.

This is the story of several of the most disastrous fires and the process which Bisbee and its suburbs went through to make the area more secure.

Many times the flames - often being whipped to a fury by fierce winds - threatened to take out an entire community. But each time, through sheer courage and determination, as well as a bit of luck, the men who fought the fires stood strong and backed them down.

Bisbee Burns is just one part of the immense Epic of Bisbee, yet a part which well defines the grit of the city’s builders and the rigors of life in earlier times. 79c7fb41ad
